Compared with other road marking paints (hot melt, cold paint), two-component road marking paints have the following remarkable features:


The drying time is only related to the ambient temperature, the amount of curing agent, etc., and has nothing to do with the thickness of the coating film. This allows the two-component road marking paint to be designed into thick film and other functional road markings, such as two-component oscillating rainy night reflective road markings, dotted markings, etc.;


The cross-linking effect in the marking film forming process greatly improves the mechanical strength of the marking film, the adhesion to the road surface and the bonding strength to the reflective material; some two-component road marking coatings can be used on wet roads Curing, so it can solve the unfavorable situation of road marking paint in rain.


In this way, two-component markings have their own unique advantages compared with other types of markings. Next, I will introduce to you several common two-component markings and their characteristics.


Epoxy two-component marking


Epoxy markings are generally used to draw colored non-slip pavements. Since the raw material epoxy resin is relatively cheap, the cost of epoxy markings is relatively low, but its low-temperature curability is poor. The epoxy resin generally needs to be cured at a temperature above 10°C. If it is too low, the curing time will be too long. The curing time will be more than 8 hours at a low temperature below 10℃. This is the biggest problem restricting the application of epoxy resin road marking coatings. Secondly, its light aging properties are also relatively poor and exist in molecules. The aromatic ether bond is easily broken under the irradiation of ultraviolet light, and the outdoor weather resistance of the coating film is poor.

Polyurethane two-component marking

Polyurethane markings are also used on colored pavements. Its construction process is similar to that of epoxy. It will not be overlaid after construction, but the curing time is too long, generally more than 4-8 hours. Polyurethane coatings have certain flammability and toxicity, which cause certain hidden dangers to the health and safety of construction workers. At the same time, the solid content of polyurethane raw materials is very different due to different formulations, and the general solvent composition is between 3% and 15%, resulting in finished coatings. The price difference per ton is more than 10,000 yuan, and the market is rather chaotic.

Polyurea two-component marking

Polyurea marking is an elastic substance produced by the reaction of isocyanate component A and cyano compound component B. It is generally used on colored pavements. The polyurea coating film cures quickly, and the film can be formed in 50 seconds for pedestrians, which can greatly shorten the construction period. , But the reaction speed is too fast, which causes certain construction difficulty. It is mostly used for spraying and requires higher spraying technology. The most obvious disadvantage is that it is expensive and costly.

MMA two-component marking

MMA two-component marking can not only draw colored roads, but also yellow and white lines. It has a wide range of applications. It has the following advantages:


1. The drying rate is extremely fast. Usually the curing time is 3~10min, and the road will be restored to traffic within a short time of construction. Even in a low temperature environment, the amount of curing agent can be appropriately increased according to the type of resin, and the curing can be achieved at 5°C for 15~30min.


2. Excellent performance. 


① Good flexibility. The unique flexibility of methyl methacrylate can avoid the occurrence of cracking of the marking film. 

②Excellent adhesion. The low molecular weight active polymer has good permeability to the capillaries remaining on the pavement, and can solve the problem that other marking paints are not easily combined with cement concrete pavements. 

③Super abrasion resistance. The polymerization reaction of the film forming process forms a network molecular structure, which tightly combines the various components in the coating into a dense whole. 

④Good weather resistance. The marking does not produce low-temperature fracture or high-temperature softening, and there is almost no aging during use; the two components form a new network molecule after polymerization, which is a large molecular weight polymer, and the new molecule does not have any active molecular bonds.


3. High environmental protection characteristics.


Solvent volatilization will destroy the atmospheric ozone layer and cause serious environmental problems. Compared with one-component road marking paint, two-component acrylic paint is cured by chemical polymerization, rather than physical volatilization and drying. There is almost no solvent in the system, only a very small amount of monomer volatilization occurs during construction (stirring, coating), and the solvent emission is much lower than solvent-based road marking paint.
